Rise: Life Lessons in Speaking Out, Standing Tall & Leading the Way - Gina Miller

ISBN: 978-1786892904

Verdict: 👍👍

 I was a bit confused when I opened this book, as under the Authors name it states  ‘Written with Elizabeth Day”  the novelist ? yet there is no mention of  Elizabeth or her role to be found in the book – me being pernickety .

Having seen Gina on TV, who comes over  as someone who argues on facts and not emotion, I felt  she had a great story to tell, However I was expecting a bit more regarding her Brexit challenge to the Government so  was not disappointed not to read as much as the focus of the book was to shine a some light on Ginas life and some challenges she faced.

There are some great snippets in the book worthy of a requote , which are;

  •  I started rattling off my fears that I thought nobody knew what they were doing with Brexit; that politicians who campaigned for us to leave didn’t seem to have a clue about the detail – it was all about ideology (p11)
  •  I’ve learned that if someone is attacking you from the off, without having listened to what you have to say, it means they’re feeling defensive. (p32)
  • Its interesting to me that a lot of the areas in the UK that voted to leave Europe and are really scared of immigration don’t have high immigration, or a high immigrant population. (p77)
  • Data can persuade people, but it doesn’t inspire them to act; to do that , you need to wrap your vision in a story that fires the imagination and stirs the soul. (p166)

I enjoyed the read despite the price, which I felt was a bit steep, so if you can get a free copy I would recommend having a read.
